Hey friends! These days I am very irregular on the blog owing to my crazy schedule with my toddler but I just reminded myself that I need to wave a Hi to you all whenever I find any product which claims to be more than ordinary. I talked some lines about Korean skincare in my last post where I reviewed the much acclaimed Klairs Supple Preparation toner. (Readfull review HERE). Since that bottle is over and there was one more option of “hydrating toner” in Nykaa from Korean brands, I opted for that this time around because I needed to see which one fares better on my skin. OK, just kidding. I opted for The Face Shop Chia seed toner because it was on discount and the Klairs one wasn’t -_- Which made the Klairs one 400 INR more costly :P
This post will be a detailed review of the recent buy and throughout the post I shall be giving comparison points between the two toners. No comparison chart at the end, because then no one will bother to read the whole post (Am a genius, Ah!) :D

Product Claims:
“A rush of hydration for gorgeous skin! The Chia Seed Hydrating Toner by Faceshop is a moisturizing toner that instantly hydrates the skin and tones dry and flaky skin.It is a premium eco-friendly skin toner free from parabens, made with miraculous seed "chia seed sprout" for enhanced moisturizing effect. Formulated with extract of Chia Seed which absorbs up to 10 times its own weight and naturally moisturizes your skin, this toner balances skin pH level, while providing long-lasting hydration and comfort. It also contains citrus extracts to purify pores, while removing dead skin and toning dry skin with moisture for healthy, revitalized skin.”

Packaging:
I generally skip giving too many details on packaging part, but I will make an exception today since we are comparing the two toners. The Face Shoop Chia Seed toner comes in frosted glass pump bottle and a flimsy tiny cap which just covers the pump-head and can fall off very easily. The bottle too, although slimmer than the Klairs toner, is quite heavy. The Klairs toner on the other hand has a fatter bottle but is totally lightweight. I was took it to be plastic before I read Korean bloggers reviews on it who claimed this was a glass bottle! Also, its cap secures tightly. So, needless to say, Face Shop Chia Seed toner would sit pretty on a dresser top, but for travels, no doubt I will pick up the Klairs one.

My Experience:
While Klairs toner is viscous-y and has a distinct “slip” in the texture, The Face Shop Chia Seed toner is almost watery with ever-so-slight slip feel in it. In the hand swatch below, see how the Face shop toner has already run down my hands before I could take a proper picture while the Klairs one is still halfway through. This makes the Chia seed toner bottle last less than the Klairs one.

Neither of these toners is fragrance-free. While the Klairs one has a sweet woody scent, the Face Shop one has a fresh floral scent to it.
The Klairs toner takes a tad longer to blend into the skin than the Chia Seed toner. On initial application, Klairs feel more emollient and moisturizing and the Chia seed one. There is no “stingy” feel which alcoholic toners give. The skin feels supple and soothed after application of both toners.

Now, coming to the main question: Which of the two toners is better of the two?
Honestly, if you read my detailed review of Klairs Hydrating Toner (Read HERE), you would understand that though am not “overly” excited about the lasting effects of Klairs toner, I definitely like it a lot for providing hydration to my cleansed skin and how it increases the efficacy of the subsequent products applied.
We have this pre-conceived notion that thicker consistencies would provide better hydration, don’t we? That’s why I was quite surprised when The Face Shop Chia seed toner gave my skin a tad more hydration than the Klairs one. Coming to effect of the follow-up products on skin (serums, gels, creams etc), I found that my face retained the “glow” for longer when I used the Chia Seed toner than the Klairs one.

But again, I would stress on the most important point here: Unlike Indian DIY ubtans and packs which actually “heal” the skin and bring a slower but gradual and lasting glow on the skin, topical application products like these only give an instant glow (On normal skin which do not have any existing issues)  On the days I skip these toners owning to busy schedule, there is not a trace of evidence that I am actually using something this expensive regularly on my face :P
However, since I know that elasticity and overall condition of skin remains good in later years if you follow a CTM (Cleansing Toning M ositurizing) routine daily, so I will continue with these two toners in future. But if you are someone who has found a natural ingredient in her kitchen which works perfectly for you (rose waters, cucumbers, honey, green tea liquor etc) and you do not wish to spend exorbitant amounts like this on a toner, I would advise you stick to the natural stuff. The effects in the long run would more or less be same if you maintain a healthy lifestyle along with regular care.

I am currently using hydrating toners, because my kid is not giving me enough time to sit at one place for 5 minutes (forget about DIY recipes), but knowing myself, when I get a little more ‘me-time’ again, I would continue using natural stuff again. I mean come on, who has that much money to spend on a toner every month? Not me. -_-
I know I am not talking like the usual “must-have” reviews in the blogosphere. All I want to put forward is that Yes, I DO like these toners VERY MUCH, but at the same time, they are not something to lose sleep over if you cannot afford one right away J
Did I make sense in the post? No? L I guess I will go back to changing diapers then! Hahah… See ya soon.. J
