Hydrating toners: Klairs Supple Preparation Facial Toner- Review
Klairs Supple Preparation Facial Toner |
Korean skincare has been the buzzword in beauty industry since over a year now and almost every beauty conscious person I know has tried atleast something from Korean beauty regime. Till now, I had only used sheet masks, which I must admit that I absolutely love for a quick glow to the face. However, the long 7-step or 9-step Korean beauty regimen seems like an absolutely unrealistic regime to follow for women who have a career to juggle, kids to take care of and ENDLESS household chores to deal with. If you are someone who follows this long regime alongside doing whatever I have mentioned here, then truly take a bow, woman! Unfortunately, I mostly know people who sometimes do not even have time for normal 3-step CTM (Cleansing, toning, moisturizing) :P So, Korean skincare regime can only fit into weekends or holidays for the likes of us.
Having said
all these, I really wanted to try atleast some elements other than sheet masks.
So, taking the advice of my trusted friend Tapaswini, I picked up a few
products. One of them is the Klairs Supple Preparation Facial Toner. A “deep moisturizing toner” intrigued me
enough since a “budget buy” person like me has always used astringents or toners
which leave a tingly sensation on skin and in many cases strip the skin of moisture.
My Skin type and condition:
Dry to normal
with some open pores around nose. My skin is not sensitive and can withstand
most products. Also, mine is 28 years + skin and currently having a sleepless routine
owing to my baby :P
Price:
Rs. 1430 for

Ingredients:
The bottle
mentions
“Phyto Oligo” which googles as an
anti-inflammatory, soothing and moisturizing agent. It provides superior
soothing and moisturizing ability to keep skin elastic and soft.
“Lipidure
and Beta-Glucan” which provides deep hydration and help prepare the skin
absorb the following products better and boost their effectiveness.
Also, the pH
level of this toner is 5 which is almost same as the natural pH of our
skin. So, this would make it perfect for sensitive skin as well.
The other ingredients enlisted are as follows.
Water, Butylene Glycol, Dimethyl Sulfone,
Betaine, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Natto Gum, Sodium Hyaluronate, Disodium
EDTA, Centella Asiatica Extract, Glycyrrhiza Glabra (Licorice) Root Extract,
Polyquaternium-51, Chlorphenesin, Tocopheryl Acetate, Carbomer, Panthenol,

Oleracea Extract, Lysine HCL, Proline, Sodium Ascorbyl Phosphate, Acetyl Methionine,

Claims:
Klair's
toner hydrates and calms sensitive skin post-cleansing and tidies the skin
texture to smoothen while maintaining the optimal pH balance to help the
absorption of other products as well. With various plant extracts and soothing ingredients
blended together for a calming formula, the non-irritating, super hydrating
toner can be used for sensitive skin as well. The skin glows brighter with
higher moisture retention.
The
Renewal Toner is prescribed with an upgraded moisturizer that rapidly absorbs
into the skin while prolonging hydration by more than 20% than conventional
toners with hyaluronic acid and beta-glucan. For dry skin, use 2-3 times
consecutively to help relieve strain from dry skin. With decreased oiliness and
increased absorption, it's suitable all year around for oily skin as well.

My take:
The first ‘difference’ which I noticed from
normal toners I have used so far and Klairs Supple Preparation toner is the
texture of the latter. This clear liquid has a slight viscosity
which is almost like serums. But this viscosity disappears when you
blend the product into your skin. The skin literally DRINKS the toner in. I
believe the warmth of the palms also aid in tapping the product in the skin.
Yes, you read it right. Unlike traditional toners which we apply with cotton
balls, this one requires just fingertips and palm of hands. But quite honestly,
even if they did mention use of cotton-wool, I would have used fingertips to
avoid wastage of product (This is the highest I have paid for any toner!)
There is almost
no fragrance except a very slight sweetish scent. It would not irritate
even the most sensitive of noses.

Absorbed- Klairs Supple Preparation Facial Toner Review |
I have been using this product for a month now
and there is only about 10% left in the bottle. To be honest, whenever I buy
any high end product, I subconsciously always try to justify my buy by looking
for slightest hint for “amazing results”. With this product however, I chose to
be rather critical.
Since for the first few times, I followed it with
serums and sheet masks, I saw a definite ‘nourished glow’ the next morning. But
then, owing to busy schedule, I started skipping sheet masks and serums and
just slathered some night cream after using Klairs toner. Needless to say, I
definitely woke up to “normal” looking skin next day which made me very
disappointed. I conveniently forgot that the brand had claimed “….help prepare
the skin absorb the following products better and boost their effectiveness”.
So quite obviously, if I am not layering more products after prepping my skin
with this toner, then the visible effect will be different.
Inspite of the initial disappointment, I chose to
continue using the product twice daily (morning and night) and now I can
definitely sense a sort of smoothening
of my skin. Now, if you are 22 and already have a good lifestyle, you will
notice no difference in effect between this or regular rose water. But if you
are nearing 30 (or beyond) or having sleepless nights with a toddler and
fatigue of a tiring office AND household chores WRITTEN on your face, then this
toner definitely helps in reducing some of that dullness from your face.
Please do not expect instant brightness or skin
lightening from this toner as it is not a toner with peeling acids. For that
you have some options form the brand Cosrx. And although this toner might be a boon for dry skinned beauties, oily or
combination skin women can use this as well since it absorbs without leaving
behind any residue.
For women who are 24 and under, I will suggest
that you stick with normal toners like rose water or at home remedies like cold
cucumber juice, since this price tag is not worth when you skin is already at
its best.
As for myself, I do not see myself going back to “freshening”
toners or astringents as my skin is quite clearly in love with hydrating toner.
As long as India does not launch hydrating toners, I might be stocking up
bottles of this. And for my cash crunch days, there is always rose water or a
cucumber slice in fridge ;)
