Black katan silk banarasi saree
Flaunting Mom’s 28 year old Black Katan Silk Banarasi Saree

One way of experiencing the gone-by years is definitely wearing that old classic saree of your mother. Your mother will have so many fond memories related to that piece of cloth and her eyes would light up seeing you wear the same after all these years. I experienced this mother-daughter moment when I wore my mother’s black pure katan silk Banarasi saree with silver zari today: A very intricately woven, yet contemporary Banarasi silk saree which my grandmother gifted her on my birth. Yes,that makes this saree 28 years now J

How to wear a Banarasi Dupatta and stay comfortable
How to wear a Banarasi Dupatta and stay comfortable

Most of you know my craze for anything handloom and handwoven. That love increases manifold when it is something as royal and intricate as the weaves of Banaras: Banarasi sarees. You have seen me style a Kimkhab Banarasi saree (See HERE) and an inherited 37 year old pure Katan silk Banarasi saree (See HERE). It is my humble attempt to reinstate the love for these amazing handwoven treasures by the weavers of Banaras amidst our generation so that it does not get lost. While I love my Banarasi sarees (even wore them for my wedding and reception), I know many who are not comfortable in sarees. So, this post is for them. Yes, you can adorn this beautiful handwoven jewel from Banaras in an easy-to carry dupatta form as well!
J Read on to find out how I styled a Banarasi dupatta.

Katan Silk Banarasi Saree
Katan Silk Banarasi Saree

Hello everyone! After your lovely response on my previous post “Kimkhwab Banarasi: My obsession with handloom sarees”, it is time now for the next post on this rich heritage handloom. Today we are talking about another variant of the Banarasi saree: Katan Banarasi. The Katan banarasi is made of pure silk and the original katan silk sarees are extremely soft and lightweight. The one we will display here today is one of my most prized possessions since this saree was worn by my mother on her wedding reception 37 years ago J

Banarasi Kimkhwab Saree
Banarasi Kimkhwab Saree

Hello beauties! What comes to your mind when you hear “Banarasi Saree”? For a Bengali, Banarasi saree (Or as we call it Benaroshi Sharee) has been THE choice for brides since time immemorial. The vibrant silks majorly in colours of red, blue and pinks with intricate golden zari weave has been the ultimate choice of Bengali brides. Even I had chosen two such sarees for my wedding and reception (Read HERE and HERE). But for a handloom saree lover like myself, just owning one or two such royal sarees from Banaras was not enough. I needed to know more about such deep-rooted beautiful handwoven magic attire. So I have been reading quite a lot about Banarasi sarees since the last few months and found out about the various kinds of Banarasi sarees available since the glorious past. One such type of Banarasi saree weave is the “Kimkhwab” (Kimkhaab) weave.
