SUGAR Smudge Me Not Liquid Lipstick 08 Wine and Shine Review, Swatches
SUGAR Smudge Me Not Liquid Lipstick 08 Wine and Shine Review |
I am probably the last person in this country to write
about this lip color from Sugar Cosmetics which is having an epic demand and
sale since its launch last year. Every blogger friend and acquaintance I know
has already used, loved and reviewed it. This shade was frequently out of stock
in their website and I could never manage to get hold of one (Erm… that’s a
plausible excuse, ain’t it? :P) Anyway, this beauty reached me in a gift box
sent by my bestie Madhubani (Of DecknDine blog). Without further ado, let’s see
how this stunning shade of lip color worked.
Brand Says:

Packaging:
The first
thing which makes Sugar Cosmetics products stand apart from other cosmetics is
the creative and quirky graphics on each of their packages. The Smudge Me Not
lip colour also comes housed inside such a quirky printed carton. The lip colour tube has a transparent body
with a black cap and a sponge applicator wand. The sponge tip is just
rectangular in shape with a rounded edge and for my thin lips I generally
prefer heart-shaped tips for easy application. So, to avoid having the lip
colour unnecessarily smearing outside my lips, I prefer using a thin flat
pointed lip brush for applying this liquid lipstick. But for people with normal
sized lips, this applicator shouldn’t pose any problem.

Shade (On my yellow toned
medium-fair complexion):
This shade
is described as Sangria and a deep
violet berry shade. I feel “deep violet berry” a better description than
“Sangria” since the latter is more deep-reddish. Wine and Shine is a true
luscious berry shade mixed with equal amount of violet. I have pigmented upper
lips, and so the shade appears to be a tad deeper than it originally is,
however, in natural sunlight, the true berry tones come out. A very sexy and
classy shade and is definitely going to suit every complexion.

Texture and Pigmentation:
The
consistency of this liquid lipstick is neither runny, nor mousse-like. It is
rather almost like moisturizing lotions that we use. Pigmentation-wise, it is
definitely one of the most pigmented products I have used. There is no need to
go over and over, just one swipe is enough. Sugar Smudge Me Not takes about a whole minute on my lips to set and turn completely matte and smudge-proof. Once set,
it is totally transfer-proof. So, you have to be very careful while lining and
filling your lips with it for obvious reasons.

Smell, Staying powder,
Feel:
It is a
relief that the Smudge Me Not range liquid lipsticks smell like caramel toffees. It would have been a huge put-off for
many like me, if there was any strong chemical smell in these lip colors.
Inspite of
the gorgeous shade range and stunning pigmentation, this range of liquid
lipsticks from Sugar cosmetics are notorious for being “too dry” on lips.
People have claimed that the dryness tends to increase with passing hours.
This was a
serious concern with me since my lips are already dry to the extent that they
sometimes bleed too! (When the mercury drops too low). To counter this problem,
many bloggers have advised prior exfoliation and hydration of your lips. But I
knew that just exfoliation and application of a lip balm would not suffice for
my extra dry lips. So, what I personally do is, before starting my full face makeup, I apply a THICK layer of Boroline
(probably the most affordable hydrating cream ever created) over my lips and
the complete my makeup. Just before applying Wine And Shine, I blot off the
excess Boroline from my lips and then proceed with the application. Once I do
this, the lip color becomes comfortable enough to carry off for long hours.
On my
lips, it stays for 7-8 hours with light
drinks and snacks in between. But, it will not survive a full oily meal.
You will notice fading from the centre and it will be wise to remove the entire
thing and then reapply fresh to avoid patchiness and flakiness.
To whom would I recommend
this shade and range?
·
To
people who are looking for a change from the usual classic red lipstick.
·
To
people who do not mind going a step extra for flaunting an uber classy shade
like this. (Exfoliation and lip hydration always before application)
To whom would I not
recommend this shade and range?
·
To
people who are not fashion-fussy and like their lipsticks to be “swipe and go”
kind.
·
To
people who strictly like their lip colors to be creamy.
Overall,
inspite of the ‘extra work’ we have to put in to make this ultra matte lip
cream work, I am absolutely gaga over this shade and have been wearing it
everywhere that I want to be a head-turner ;)
