A year of wed lock- an uncommon marriage

It seems just like yesterday that I penned down “How our tale started” as a blushing
bride-to be. It is a year since then and last Sunday (27th November)
we celebrated one year of your wedlock. An entire year ‘whooshed’ by and it
seems unreal that we are married since a whole year now! This post is a reminiscence
of these 365 days and a few grateful words for the ones who actually made this
year a sweet one for us and also the ones who made every possible attempt at
making things bitter for us ;)
Ours isn’t a normal story where the bride and groom
enters a new home after the wedding and begins their brand new chapter. Almost
everyone who knows us both is aware of the fact that we are a “long distance”
couple. Him, a mechanical engineer has no job openings in the IT hub Bangalore
where I stay, and me a Chinese language expert cum business analyst had no
career option in the small town called Sikka in Gujarat where he was working in
a oil refinery.

Now a common scenario in India is that the girl
almost always has to leave her place of work and join her husband wherever he
is even if that means sacrificing her promising career. I should thank my
fortune that I was raised by a man who instilled the necessity of being
financially independent always and I got married to a man who left no stone
unturned to support me and my career choices. Cherry on the cake was, his
parents were as supportive towards my career as much as he was and they did not
let any amount of “society pressure” filter across to me.

Another side of the coin was I had some financial
responsibilities to cater to which I could not have done if I did not have a
job. Long story short, even though like ANY normal couple, we yearned to be
together, we could only “meet” thrice after our marriage. Thankfully, things
will be changing this year end and we are finally moving in together J

However, the point of this post was to extend our
heartfelt gratitude to my colleagues, close friends, relatives who have been a
rock solid support for me whenever I felt low. Here are a few things they DID
NOT do much to my relief:
·
They did not comment “Had I been at your
place, I would have left job and ran to my husband. Haha!” (Obviously yes,
because you didn’t spend a penny in your wedding and your salary is not used
for any financial commitment )
·
They did not say in a mocking tone “Why
is your husband not trying to get a job in Bangalore?” (If you knew him, you
would realize he left no stone unturned. Much more than what your partner would
have ever done for you.)
·
They did not comment “Hawww! Why are you
still wearing western dresses, why isn’t your sindoor not showing” (Because my husband thankfully isn’t an
insecure git who needs to brand his wife)
·
They did not go to my in laws and say
with a sly grin “You don’t need to worry about them. They seem to be enjoying
shirking responsibilities”
Yes, as you might have guessed, there WERE people
who actually said these insensitive things to us, but I am thankful that I was
surrounded more by those positive people who supported us mentally whenever
possible.

He flew in to me a day before our anniversary and we
spent the day experiencing a couple shoot since we couldn’t do one prior to
wedding (yes, blame long distance there too!) Our moments were captured by two
absolutely brilliant souls Rahul Singi
and Nandish Rao from “Tasveer-a frame to cherish” (Click to view their Facebook
Page HERE). Both of us were amazed how friendly yet professional these two
guys were! Rahul actually climbed up a tree to get one particular shot of us :P The two-three hours felt like a giggle session between friends and
we were gifted a lifetime of memories captured in frame by them. I highly
recommend them for any photography assignments
you might have (Ping me for their numbers)

In a nutshell, both I and Subhadeep extend our
heartiest “thank you” to all who wished us well in this course of a year. For the
ones who actually said the hurtful things to us, we are not holding any grudges
against you, but it is a genuine request that since we are all adults, it is
time we measure our words before blurting out just anything J
For a long distance couple, things are already hard, do not make it even harder
for them.
For the others, enjoy the pictures by Tasveer :D
