I am more of a “natural glowey skin” liking person than someone who would choose OTT dazzling highlighting glow on their faces. I have nothing against that kind of glow though; in fact I absolutely love it on others, but just not on me! Blessed with good skin genes, I have a very basic skincare routine which sufficiently caters to reducing dullness et al. But I am forever in search of a good and more importantly a “subtle” highlighter which can add a “natural” glow on my face. Something which doesn’t scream “I-have-got-glitter-on-my-face” and yet make people wonder “what DOES she do for her skin?” ;) Ha Ha! Let’s see if Swiss Beauty Highlighting Primer served my purpose.

Product Name: Swiss Beauty Highlighting Primer Real Makeup Base

Shades Available: N01 Natural Tint and N02 Golden Tint. I chose the second one for my warm-toned skin.

Price: 349/- INR for 30ml. I got it for 249/- during a sale at Nykaa. Also available on Amazon HERE

What the product claims and Usage : "The Swiss Beauty brighten the skin, contains pearl powder. It brightens skin and make the base fit and natural shines and enchanting lustre as well. Let your skin soft and moisturizing with this highlighting primer. Use it alone and bright your skin. Mixed with highlighting primer with base products such as foundation or BB cream with a scale of 1: 1. After press on palm apply them on the face to finish the base. After finishing the base apply the product on the area where need to be highlighted, make the skin more glossy."

Packaging: I am very impressed with the packaging of Swiss Beauty products. Considering the low price point, their products are all encased in classy covers. For instance, the outer carton of this highlighting primer is a matte gold one with black lettering. The shade name is mentioned on the top flap. The inside reveals a sleek glass bottle with a golden cap which clicks shut. The bottle is flat on the back and rounded in front which makes it sit well into your makeup bag when you are travelling. The black pump dispenses the correct amount of product each time. The entire bottle is palm sized which makes it quite handy. I lost the outer carton, so no pictures of that :(

My experience on using it: The product usage instructions on the box ask us to use it twice: Once mixed with base makeup like BB cream or foundation in the ratio of 1:1 and after that some extra to be dabbed in the areas where you need more shine like cheekbones. It may also be used alone to brighten our skin is what they claim as well. I am personally not very enthusiastic about base makeup on a regular basis. I do have pigmentation around my mouth and deep-set dark circles, but still foundation and I are not best of friends. So quite obviously, I chose to use the first pump of the product on my bare skin.

The product in itself looks like a pearly white water-based moisturizer with a beautiful golden sheen. This is probably the most finely milled golden glitter in a liquid product that I have ever seen. It absorbs REALLY quickly into the skin and there is absolutely no greasy feel at all. The golden glow is unmistakable yet very VERY subtle. Not quite deep golden highlighted effect that I got from Inglot AMC Face and Body Illuminator which I had got for my wedding six years back (read its review HERE). So if you like a dazzling glow, then this highlighter might not be for you.

On top of foundation laden face (for lack of better phrase!), the Swiss Beauty Highlighting Primer looks a tad more prominent, but still I would say it is a lot more forgiving and wearable than most high-end highlighters I have used till now. You know what is the best part about owning a subtle highlighter? You can literally wear this highlighter every day and actually finish that bottle instead of waiting EONS for a special occasion to come up!

The highlighter also gives a kind of smoothening to skin while leaving a delicate floral scent. I have been using it for a few months now and so far it has not caused any sort of skin irritation for me.

I feel my skin gets a beautiful natural glow when I use this primer-highlighter. The effect is not cakey, chunky or over-the-top at all. However, you can always go overboard with any product if you layer it too much. For me, a tiny amount is sufficient to cover my whole face. But since the product offers a barely-there kind of highlighting, for evenings you can definitely try layering more for a prominent effect. Here I have only the highlighter on my skin which was prepped with some aloevera gel and a sunscreen.
