This rosy brown totally made our top 8” is what Colourpop cosmetics has to say about this shade of their Ultra Matte liquid lipstick range. I had picked this up with another stunning red lipstick Arriba from the same collection (Check photos HERE) because my love for rosy browns or dusty pinks is unending. But somehow, I ended up having mixed feelings for this product. Read on to find more.

Shade:
The shade is described as a rosy brown in the brand’s website. It looked like a medium deep brown with prominent rosy pink tones. However, when I received the lipstick, the shade turned out to be a dusty pink shade with warm tones.
Here are wrist swatches under different lights:

Although dusty pinks and warm toned lip colors compliment my medium tan skin tone very well, somehow this shade looks a tad neonish on me L It looks beautiful on wrist swatch, but as soon as I apply it on my lips, there is an unhealthy washed out look on my face. I am guessing this shade will work for people with fairer complexions and cool toned medium skin tones. Also, this shade will work for people who have a porcelain and problem free skin and not someone with hyperpigmentation mark around the lips like me. I had not expected this “normal” shade to have such conflicting effects.

Now here is a comparison swatch between Lakme lip and Cheek Tint Rose Touch and Colourpop Top 8. Rose Touch is a lovely cool toned dusty pink. It flatters my complexion really well
If you check the review comments in the official website, you will understand what I am talking about. Some are all praises about the formula and the colour, while others are giving brickbats telling that the colour is nowhere close to what is shown on screen.

Texture and longevity:
Unlike the shade Arriba, which felt very lightweight and comfortable on lips, Top 8 feels completely matte, slightly heavy and tacky on my lips no matter how little I apply.
It also turns patchy and there is a feathering around edges when I have a drink of water or take light snacks. I tried pairing the lip color with other lipsticks/lip pencils, but that makes this lipstick even more tacky and heavy. I am utterly confused because some reviews on the site tell a completely different story gushing about texture and longevity while my experience matches with the few other negative reviews on the site. Can it be due to different proportions of ingredients used in different batches? Beats me!

See how it crumbled when I gave it a little rub under tap water. But thankfully, it does not stain and I could completely remove it with a single swipe of cotton dipped in coconut oil.

Would I repurchase it? Definitely not. But as explained in the review, you may have a completely different experience with this one as the people with positive reviews had. I really love the shade it looks like when swatched on wrists, but I cannot say the same about on lip application.
