An essential eyeshadow collection featuring 14 shades including neutral and berry otnes. Use Focallure intense permanent palette, Tropical Vacation edition to create endless looks for daytime and evening”…. is what the brand Focallure claims for this eyeshadow palette. I came across this brand while browsing through makeup sale accounts in Instagram. On googling, I found that Focallure is a Chinese brand selling affordable makeup. While “alert bells” did ring for me since Chinese are infamous for poor quality products, Focallure seemed to have quite good reviews on Youtube by many bloggers. I decided to give it a try. The Instagram handle @focallure_beauty_india  is the official dealer of Focallure cosmetics in India and I chose the eyeshadow palettes Twilight, Evergreen and Tropical Island as my first order from them. While the first two contains vivid shades, Tropical Island contained neutrals to earthy tones with a mix of shimmer and mattes and I couldn’t resist it. Let’s see if the brand and the palette convinced me enough or was this just a bunch of wasted notes J

Packaging:
The first thing which attracted me into this brand was the amazing packaging of its products. The eyeshadow palettes are lightweight cardboard with magnetic lid which might not seem appealing to everyone but I find such palettes very convenient for travelling rather than heavy plastic or metal palettes. Also, each Focallure palette covering has interesting graphics printed on them. Take a look!

The Tropical Vacation palette also has a dual-ended brush with a flat paddle brush on one end and a blending fluffy brush on the other (Quite like Urban Decay palettes). I absolutely love the quality of the brush. The bristles are neither too sparse nor too dense which would restrict the swiveling of the bristles while blending.

My Experience:
The warm berry tone mattes and the bronzey shades make this palette look very similar to the famous Anastasia Beverly Hills Modern Renaissance palette. Infact, this was one reason for me to pick this up since I cannot afford the costlier cousin.
There are four shimmers in this palette: Taro, Desert, Bright and Empire
Rest ten are mattes: Wax, Beach, Frost, Retro Copper, Magenta, Coffee, Apricot, Moscow, Camel and Heat.
The shimmer shades are extremely pigmented of which Desert is the most intense one.

Same is not true of all matte shades. A little bit of work is needed for Moscow, Retro Copper and Magenta. Apricot barely shows up on wrist swatch, but surprisingly works like a wonderful transition shade on eyelids.

While picking up with a brush, there is a bit of fall out in the palette, but I did not find any major chalkiness in any shade. I have tried out all shades without any primer or base beneath and they show up quite well, so I can guess that a primer underneath or using a setting spray on the brush would make the shades pop more.
The shimmer shades show up more if deposited with the pad of the fingertips. Have a look at the swatches below. These swatches are done with fingertips and no primer underneath. The shade Empire is a much vibrant shimmer purplish brown than what is shown here (The lighting caused this difference maybe)

Finger Swatch: Focallure Tropical Vacation Eyeshadow palette Review, Swatches

Below are swatches with the flat brush. Quite obviously the pigmentation seems way less here since there is no primer beneath. Fingertip always picks up more product than brush does.

The matte shadows blended very well on the eyelids. I used the brush provided with the palette and was able to do a smooth application.

One fact which struck me odd was when I ran tap water over the hand swatch and gave a good rub, all the shadows came off without any cleanser. Have a look. This reinforces the need for a good primer underneath otherwise staying power will be compromised.

Finally, here is a simple look on my eyes. I could not experiment much because I had to take feeding breaks for my new-born J I wish to create ore looks in future.
In a nutshell, this is a really pretty palette for beginners. For people accustomed to immensely pigmented and buttery smooth high-end branded eyeshadows, you can give this a skip. However, I am really fond of the shade selection in this palette and can see myself carrying this on short trips.

I am hoping the other two palettes don’t disappoint me as well. Reviews coming soon J
