Review of The Body Shop’s Vitamin E Overnight Serum-in-Oil
Review of The Body Shop’s Vitamin E Overnight Serum-in-Oil |
Hello beauties! This review was long due since I am
using this product over three weeks now. But I wanted to be extra sure before I
penned down anything about this hugely popular product. Whatever I am going to
write is my personal observation and your experience may be very different from
mine. My skin type is normal-dry which turns drier in winters. Inspite of this,
I had never faced the problem of dry patches on my skin before I hit
mid-twenties. Suddenly now, in otherwise pleasant Bangalore weather, I am discovering
some dry spots on my cheeks. So I needed a solution for that. Read on to find
if this famous product served the purpose:

Packaging:
It comes in a glass bottle with a dropper. I find the packaging cute but I saw
some spillage around the cap when it toppled over once by mistake L
Smell
and texture: A colorless, almost water-like light
oil with a sweet floral fragrance which is not overpowering.

My
take: As I mentioned earlier, I was looking for
something to specifically target my dry patches. These patches are not visible
to the eye but I could feel them when I ran my fingers through my face. Now if
you know me, you will understand that even though I am a beauty blogger, it
takes a LOT for me to convince myself to buy pricey stuff even if the WHOLE
world claims it to be a must-have. So naturally, before splurging on this one,
I went ahead and started massaging my face every day with virgin cold-pressed
coconut oil just before bedtime. And even though I had “oil-on-my-face”, the
next day there was no sign of dry patches. But the process involved a bit of
work since I washed my face with warm water prior to oil application so that
open pores could soak in the oil better. One week into that and I got fed up
and stopped. Lo! Dry patches returned with all pomp and grandeur -_-
It was then I thought of trying something simpler
and since the world swears by this product I joined the bandwagon! I needed
about three drops to cover my cleansed and toned face (I use an alcohol-free
toner) and I was amazed at how light the oil was! It was as if my skin “drank” in the serum. I skipped
night cream and slept off. I woke up to
a glowy face :D I was extremely happy! Lesser quantity required, non-greasy,
easy seeps into skin, didn’t break me out and a glow on the face next morning.
What’s not to love?

My euphoria continued for three days. On the fourth, I
started feeling the dry patches coming back around mid-day. From the fifth day
onwards, I did not notice any extra “glow” on my face other than my normal
fresh skin. After the second week, I tried the same coconut oil again, and the
dry patches were gone the next day!
So what should I conclude? Well, I guess this product will work very well for normal
to oily skin or combination skin. It might even work for dry skin which does
not have extra dry patches. But if you have dry patches like me, you can just
try cold pressed coconut oil or almond oil treatment. It would give you same
result at less than one-fifth the price.
Do not get me wrong, I still would love to use this
product due to the advantages I mentioned (non-greasy, lightweight, easy to
apply etc) and there would be days when I am too tired to keep on massaging
other oils on my face. This would come in handy in those days. But at this
price point I may not buy it again once it gets over since other humble oils
provide better hydration J I know I am going to get a lot of brick
bats for this but truth had to be told from a super dry-skin perspective! So I
would rate it likewise:

Do you know of any
other serum which might suit my skin needs? If yes, do leave your suggestions

busy concocting a custom made facial oil for myself. Let’s see how things go!
Wish me luck
