Hey all! This review isn’t going to be a normal review. As the title itself says, it is about a “FAKE” product: A fake MAC product to be precise. We all are aware of endless shopping pages on Instagram which sells fakes of almost every high end brand possible: be it MAC, Balm cosmetics, Kylie Jenner cosmetics, Anastasia Beverly Hills, Too Faced- they have it all. Why, they don’t even spare drugstore brands like Colorpop and NYX! Yes, they have fake Colorpops out there as well. While people like us who are a bit literate in the field of makeup can distinguish which ones are fake, I see tons of unsuspecting ladies buying fakes and believing it to be true. Read on to see what was the point of me buying a fake MAC product when I knew perfectly well this is not the original?

What are “first copies”:You will see most of these sellers on Instagram admitting that the ones they sell are “First Copies” and not the original (While I have also come across sellers who blatantly lie that their products are original when they clearly are not). First Copies are also fakes of the original product but “better quality duplicates”. While we were in student life, I will admit that I had no clue what MAC, Dior, Channel was and I quite happily used the “MAC” pencils which retailed for Rs.20/- and “Channel” eyeshadows which retailed for Rs.60/- I was not aware of ingredients hazards but thankfully nothing had happened to me after using those. One of my Chinese native friends had told me that First Copies are nothing but the batches of products which are a tad less than 10/10 quality of the original one and gets rejected at the factory while the selection process is going on for the original brand. To believe this or not is unto us at the end of the day.

But now, since I have been blogging for more than two years now, I wanted to find out the difference and also check the ingredients. My first pick was this palette from MAC. This palette was astonishingly similar to an earlier launch by MAC called Spring Color Forecast whose fourth set had this eyeshadow quad. Have a look at the original quad. Although this image looks more brownish, if you google up the reviews of the original quad, you will the insane similarity between that and the fake one!

The quad is magnetic and housed four eyeshadows. As described by MAC the four eyeshadows are:
* Manila Paper – Pale frosted white gold (Veluxe Pearl) (Limited Edition)
* Flip – Bronze gold (Frost) (Limited Edition) (Repromote)
* Aztec Brick – Frosted true copper (Veluxe Pearl) (Limited Edition)
* Creole Beauty – Frosted dark golden brown (Frost) (Limited Edition)

This fake MAC palette costs about Rs.450 (First giveaway to it being fake!). The packaging is super impressive though! It has a matte black outer carton like the original MAC products and inside that is the most wonderful quality magnetic palette I have ever come across! :-o I was expecting a super flimsy palette but the quality of the magnetic palette just bowled me over. It is so sturdy and the lid “click locks” so beautifully that I had even tried to check if I can depot the shadows and use the palette for other original eyeshadows :-/ The scary part was there is absolutely NO difference with the original packaging. You can check Temptalia blog for the original review.

Coming to the shades, they are exactly as described by the MAC site: A pale frosted white gold, a frosty bronze gold, a frosted true copper and a dark brown with frosted gold.

When swatched, the difference from the original is stark. There is very less pigmentation in this fake palette. But when used with a primer, the colors actually bloom beautifully and last ridiculously long too! But even then, the pigmentation comes nowhere close to the original MAC eyeshadows. Have a look at the swatches!

Now coming to the most important part: INGREDIENTS!
Although I am not sure if they do include everything they mentioned in the carton or not, but then even with high-end brands I have read controversies of them failing the “standard ingredient” tests. Just to be sure, I have done a bit of research online of the mentioned ingredients and these are my findings: (All the information regarding ingredients have been taken from https://www.ewg.org)

1. Zinc Stearate- Overall hazard : Low
2. Octyldodecyl Stearoyl Stearate-A skin conditioning and viscosity increasing agent. 99% harmless. Used in brands like Boots, Physicians Formula etc.
3. Caprylyl glycolis- Used as a skin conditioning agent; has some antimicrobial activity. Overall hazard low
4.Hexylene Glycol-Low percentage concerns :Irritation (skin, eyes, or lungs), overall hazard low, Hexylene glycol is a small molecular weight surfactant.
Now, from what I have read, glycols can be an irritant to skin. So the presence of Hexylene Glycol can be a cause of concern.
The rest of the ingredients seemed pretty much what I came across in other eyeshadow palettes.

Decision time: Whether or not you should try these palettes? Personally, these eyeshadows didn not irritate my skin at all. I might use them sparingly sometimes, always with a primer underneath though. But yes, if you have a super sensitive skin, you should avoid anything fake. Also, looking at the pigmentation without primer, you can get Maybelline quads at same price with way better quality. My suggestion will be to opt for that.

I am currently trying to depot the shades so that I can use this brilliant palette for other shadows as I mentioned ;) Where do you get a super quality magnetic palette at this price otherwise? I will let you all know if I could depot the same! ;)
