Bridal Makeup Kit Essentials-Part One (Base Makeup)
Bridal Makeup Kit Essentials |
Hello
Beauties!
It’s
time for the most important part of the “Bridal Banter” series- The bride’s makeup kit!! From a fashion conscious girl to a
no-fuss girl, every girl wants to look absolutely stunning on her wedding day
(and the functions associated with it). But not all of us are blessed with
flawless skin and even the most beautiful eyes and lips need some definition to
look the best in the pictures, don’t you agree? So this post is all about “Tried and Tested” products which has
never failed a bride :D I have used almost 90% of these products on myself and
can vouch the quality and efficacy of
these products. The compilation is both from high-end to budget products
and it is purely based on my personal experience with the products. This is not a sponsored post. Read on to
find out how you can compile perfect bridal makeup kit J
The
following is a list of products I prefer using and had included in my kit too J For convenience
I have decided to segregate the posts into Base,
Eyes, Lips and Nails-and miscellaneous. Today we shall be looking into Base
Makeup and the next posts will follow soon:
1.
Primer: One of the most
essential products that a bride must include in her makeup kit is a Primer. A
primer basically creates a “smooth canvas” for the other makeup products to
work on. It smoothens the uneven texture of our facial skin, fill pores and
help the makeup to stay on fresh for longer. The most popular ones available in
Indian market today are L’Oreal Base Magique, Colorbar Perfect Match Primer and
Revlon Photo Ready primer. These are priced from Rs.700-900 and give
fabulous results! Another high-end is the MAC Prep n Prime.
Elegant Eves Suggests: Go easy while applying the primer
on your face. Do not over do the amount or you might end up looking like a
grease-ball.

2.
Foundation: The oldest
known and most “erroneously used” makeup product ;) Read our post on foundation mistakes done
in Bridal makeup HERE. As I have repeatedly mentioned earlier, foundation is NOT something to make you
look fair. It is a product used for giving us an even skin tone and
creating a flawless base. The best ones which worked on my dry-normal skin are
the following: MAC Face and Body Foundation, L’oreal Infallible Stay Fresh foundation and Maybelline Dream Liquid Mousse foundation. Click on the individual names to read detailed
review on all of them J Oily-combination
skin can try L’oreal parish Nude Liquid Powder foundation. It gives a matte
and lightweight finish.
Elegant Eves Suggests: Always choose a shade which
matches perfectly with the skin tone of your jawline and not your wrist. But if
you end up with a shade darker, use a lighter shade compact over it to balance
the tones J

3.
Concealers: Truly called as
“magic wands” in makeup, concealers come in various textures and formulas
(powders, creams, pansticks, liquids), but serve the same purpose: camouflaging
blemishes, spots or pigmentation on the face. There are endless options for
concealers and it is always advisable to try out the shade at the store to find
your perfect shade. Some best ones available are: L’oreal Truematch, Lakme Absolute, Maybelline Age Rewind and my
favourite MAC Prolong Wear Concealer J L’oreal
Truematch can be a good option if you are on budget and want something easy to
use which gives good result
Elegant Eves Suggests: If you are a beginner, go for
liquid concealers instead of cream or pancakes. Liquids are easy to apply and
blend and gives a natural finish

4. Compact: Compact powders are the most widely used and easy-to-handle makeup
products which a woman should have. You have to keep a compact in handy for
those rush-hours when you don’t feel like layering foundation or even if you
skin is oily to blot excess oil and set your makeup.
My favourites have been Lakme
Intense whitening compact in shade Golden Medium (Because its yellow tones
suited my skin tone very well), Loreal Mat Magique Powder and my recent
FAVOURITE is Lotus Herbals Eco-stay powder in shade Royal Ivory. Go for
this if you need a bit more coverage. The formers come between range of
Rs.170-400 and the Lotus one costs Rs.650. You can almost always find these on
offers online.
Elegant Eves Suggests: Do not over layer your compact
powder. Just dab on areas which tend to get oily soon. Too much powder on face
can accentuate lines and make you look older

5. Blush: Like the term “blushing bride” is very much ingrained in our
minds when we talk about weddings, we know it’s not always possible to have a
natural flush of colour on our cheeks always. This is why a good blush is Very
VERY important in a bridal kit. In addition to adding some colour to your face, it makes
your skin look bright and lets your face have some “character” in pictures.
Miss the blush and end up looking like a flat sphere. My favourite blush for
that subtle and most natural colour is NYX powder blush in Dusty rose. (Read the full review here). It is natural, suits all complexion, matte and very
buildable. Other favourites are NYX Desert
Rose, Loreal Lucent blush (Slight shimmery, perfect for evenings) and
Maybelline Cheeky glow (Satin finish blush and HIGH on quality).
A recent addition to my stack is Sleek Makeup’s
Rose Gold blush which is a perfect bridal blush in rose pink and golden shimmer
(Read review here)
Elegant Eves Suggests: A matte dusty pink will suit every
complexion. Apply blushes to the appleof your cheeks and blend very nicely so
that no one can make out the exact area you have applied the blush. It is bad
makeup if the blush stands out on your cheeks

6. Contouring Powder or bronzer: Contouring basically means using a pigment
slightly darker than your skin tone on areas like temple, hollow of cheeks,
jawline etc to give you a chiselled look.
There are various kits available in market meant specifically for contouring (Read review of Sleek Contour Kit here),
but since I am personally not a fan of heavy contouring and prefer a light “shaping”
done rather than super chiselled look, I chose a matte brown blush for the same. Lakme Pure Rouge Blush in shade “Honey
bunch” is a perfect contouring shade for Indian skin tones. If you are fair to
medium skin toned, even L’oreal Paris’ Mat Magique compact powder in shade G7 Golden Amber will work as a contouring shade
Elegant Eves Suggests: There is absolutely no necessity of
buying a contour kit if you are not into heavy makeup routine everyday. The two
mentioned above will be enough for your everyday looks. The wedding night makeup
will anyway be done by a professional, who would be using his/her own
contouring products

7. Highlighter and Illuminators: The ULTIMATE product to bring a GLOW to the
bride’s face J Highlighters should not be missed at any
cost. Apply on the cheek bones, a bit on your chin, a little on the bride of
your nose, on your eyebrow bone and glow like never before! I prefer liquid
highlighters for evenings and powders for days. My favorties are Colorbar Illuminating pen (liquid) and it
is the most cost-effective one (About Rs.550), Inglot AMC Face and Body
illuminator (read review here). For powders, Lakme has a beautiful
highlighter in the Absolute range called Moonlit. Remember, warm skin tones
should go for goldenish or copperish shades while cool skin tones should go for
pearly shaded highlighters.
Elegant Eves Suggests: Colorbar illuminating pen can work
wonders at a low budget. If you are buying highlighter for the first time, we
suggest you invest in this one. Also, remember to use a highlighter ONLY on
places of your face where light naturally reflects (higher spots). Do not ever
use highlighter all over your face. This will spell disaster!

That’s all for
this post ladies. Will be back with part two, three and four of this series
