What I Finally Wore for Reception Party
Bengali Bridal Reception Look |
Hey
dearies!!! If you read my last post (Wedding of this Bengali Bride: Attire, Makeup, Jewellery, Style), you would know that I was totally satisfied with the
way things turned out with my makeup and attire on my wedding J But then, after wedding comes another big
event: Reception party at the in-laws place!
And while before the wedding you can afford a lot of pampering and glow on
D-Day, it’s what happens DURING the wedding that takes away all your glow
before the reception party. Stress,never-ending rituals, grief of leaving your
loved ones behind and tension of going into an all new environment! And lo! All
your bridal blush is gone by the time the new family throws the welcome party.
This is why a good makeup artist is even MORE necessary on your reception day.
Read on to find how mine fared J
Attire: Like
you already know from my earlier post “Reception Drape” that my super cool
mom-in-law had chosen a pink banarasi saree
for the day just as I had wanted! J It had a contrasting emerald green pallu
which actually made the pink stand out more J An issue with this color although was the
fact that I was unable to find a matching pink tissue “orna” or veil (Veil is
compulsory in any Bengali traditional bridal look and though many choose to
avoid it in their reception parties these days, I knew I wouldn’t exactly look “bridal”
if I didn’t wear one). And we generally prefer tissue fabric veils because they
give a kind of flowy feeling rather than the clingy feel of georgette dupattas.
Sadly, most tissue dupattas (Like the one I wore in my marriage HERE) come in
red or gold. I didn’t want to go for gold because that is what EVERY Bengali
bride I knew wear in their reception party with their blue banarasi sarees -_-

I also
didn’t want to spend a bomb on something which I will probably wear only once.
So I searched high and low and finally found a plain pink tissue dupatta on Jabong.com HERE :D And that too for 399/- A prompt order and then stitching a lace
of my choice made me get the veil of my choice :D
Makeup: My MUA
was the same person who did my wedding makeup. And since she did a fab job on
the wedding, I was relaxed this time too. I just gave her a few of my own
products for using this time, rest were the same used on the wedding day. Here
is what she used on me:
1. Kryolan TV Paint Sticks in 3-4
different shades for foundation and contouring.
2. Golden, pink and brown
eyeshadows from a VOV palette
3. A blackish brown eyeshadow from
the same palette to do my eye-brows
4. Lakme Insta Eyeliner
5. Maybelline Colossal Kajal
6. L’oreal Million Lashes mascara
7. A yellow setting powder
(probably from Kryolan)
8. Higlighter with a golden
eye-shadow from Lakme
9. A rose pink blush (Didn’t
notice the brand)
10.
L’oreal Pure Reds lipstick “Pure Amaranthe”
11.
Some local brand pan-cakes in yellow and orangey beige shades
which she used with a wet sponge over my hands and back to cover uneven
pigmentation (I was amazed at the coverage it gave :-o )

For my
hair she created a normal updo (with lots of teasing at the crown!) which would
compliment my typical Bengali look and added a pink flower to complete my
hairdo. Overall, I was satisfied with what I saw in mirror and as expected,
even these “affordable” makeup stayed intact till I removed it 9 hours later ;) Oh yes! She also used a set of completely natural looking falsies on me and
when I saw how natural they looked, I regretted my decision of not allowing her
to apply them on my wedding :(

Here is a full picture of me in my reception attire ;) So
yours truly could finally avoid the nightmare of wearing a blue banarasi in ‘boubhaat”
(No hard feelings for blue banarasi. It looks fab on some. It looks awful on
me!)
In a nutshell, I was completely happy with how my looks turned out for these two days ;) Turns out, you CAN have good stuff even on a budget, huh? ;) Enjoy the pics gals :)
