Reception Drape: Attire for “Bou Bhat”

Now, although I fully support the part about not being a
“bridezilla” and creating holes in pocket running after designer boutiques, but the very idea of having to wear blue banarasi (which
mostly came with silver zari) like EVERYONE else seemed like a nightmare to me!
Mostly because I knew I was going to wear traditional gold jewellery on
both wedding and reception evenings and that with silver zari on the saree
would clash like hell! I also knew that many Bengali families would just buy a
beautiful blue banarasi saree for the newly-wed bride without eve asking if she
WANTS to wear blue on her reception :-/
My fears proved to be completely wrong when my super-cool
mom-to-be asked me what color I would want to wear, what type of designs, what
kind of jewellery and all :D I promptly told “anything but blue. Preferably
dark pink with golden zari” And behold!!! My darling MIL bought THIS for me! It
was a love at first sight for me :D A magenta pink banarasi saree with intricate gold
embroidery all over the body and an emerald green aachal which also has all
over gold embroidery :D

I did not want to be too experimental with the blouse and made
a normal one with gold beaded neckline and sleeves.

The veil forms a very important part of the Bengali
bridal/reception esemble and I decided to customize one instead of buying a
readymade one. For the dupatta, I scanned my trusted site,
Jabong.com and got this perfectly matching plain magenta colored tissue
dupatta. Once I received it, it went to my tailor for the lace. She sourced this antique
gold lace with pearls from her wholeseller and gave my dupatta a regal look
:D I didn’t want to go overboard with the zari because I plan to use this even
after the reception with one of my salwar kameez :P And the cherry on the cake
was, the dupatta, zari and stitching charges took me less than 1k as opposed to
the readymade ones which were priced at 1500-2800 ;)
Regarding jewellery, I will be wearing the traditonal gold
sets given by my parents and my in-laws. Thankfully, all of those matches with
my wedding attire and reception one as well :D But I wanted a bit of color-pop in my
jewellery too, so this set came into my kit a few days back ;) Its a golden
necklace studded with dark pink and green stones and pearls. I have
bought this from “Pranati Jewels” (Read all about Online stores for gold costume jewellery here). This will go well
with the gold jewelleries as well (I hope!)
Thus, am sorted :D And for all the other brides-to-be who are
still hunting for the perfect reception saree and have a mother-in-law as
lovely as mine, tell them your choices because there is NOTHING wrong in that J It is your day and you should wear what makes you
feel beautiful!
Here are a few pointers
to remember if you do not want to wear red on your reception:
·
Warm toned girls (with yellow tones in complexion) can opt for
fuchsias, magentas, rust, orange, yellow, emerald green etc. These colors would
bring out your glow even more :)
·
Cool Toned girls can choose baby pinks, purples, mauves, powder
blue, royal blue etc. These colors would add more to your pearly complexion :D
·
Don’t blindly go for kundan jewellery just because “everyone
wears them” or for gold jewellery because I am telling you to. Stand in front
of the mirror with your attire and think what would go with that particular
saree and on yourself. Choose jewellery wisely :)
·
I personally love reception looks with roses (pinks, reds, dark
pinks) on hair. You might also give it a thought :)
That’s all for today girls! Will be back soon
