Hello beauties! I was supposed to do this post almost 10 days back after 20 days of using the Nioxin Haircare range and reveal if it really worked or not. So, after my hair analysis by Bodycraft Spa and Nioxin hair experts I was suggested the Nioxin system no.2 which was meant for "Natural, noticeably thinning hair". Nioxin has five kits of this kind named from 1 to 5 which caters to different kind of hair (thick/thin/virgin/chemically treated)

Now, for all those who do not know my hair type, here is a brief description:
I have fine hair which is normal to dry and oily at the scalp. My hair is otherwise silky, manageable and damage-free but the fine nature of the strands makes my hair look less voluminous. Also, I have to shampoo every two days because the oil build-up at the roots makes my hair even more limp. I had considerate amount of volume when I was at home, but constant change of place owing to academics and now job has taken a toll on my hair. I was desperately looking for something which will help me regain the volume.

Nioxin products is supposed to create a "clean scalp environment" and cater to thinning issues of hair. But I was mildly disappointed when it was specifically mentioned at the event that we should not expect that Nioxin would help in increasing volume. But then I was still hopeful because a clean and healthy scalp is required for encouraging hair growth, isn't it? Also, another tad disappointing was the fact that after my hair was treated with Nioxin system no.2 at the event, unlike others who had drastic changes in their hair, my hair looked and felt same. A fellow blogger even asked me "Hey, did you have a hair spa before coming here? Your hair looks same" :D lol!


Anyway, keeping the "flame of optimism" high, I started using it every alternate day (Although advised to use every day, come on!! that is so not practical). The kit consists of a Cleanser (Shampoo), Conditioner and a foam type sunscreen serum!

It is priced at Rs.3000 (Approx) and retails only in salons because you need experts to help you decide which system is suited to your scalp and hair.


The shampoo is a translucent pale blue, the conditioner is opaque white and the serum is a white foam. The shampoo gives a cooling sensation while washing which is much like peppermint! The conditioner, unlike commercially available ones has a unique nature to it! It has to be massaged on the scalp and then to the strands! Leave it on for 2-3 mins and then wash off like you would normally do. I feel a refreshing cooling sensation when I wash off the conditioner. After that, on my towel-dried hair, I make parts like ridges all over my scalp and apply drops of the serum on the scalp. A little massage follows.It is a leave on serum.

Let me sum up the good points and not so good points for you here:
The good things:

• The shampoo really deep cleanses well and you will have a squeaky clean scalp each time you use it.
• The conditioner inspite of being "massaged" on the scalp did not weigh down my hair at all or make it greasy
• The sunscreen foam is a novel concept and it gives a kind of "mental assurance" that my hair is protected against harsh rays of sun :)

The "not-so-good" points:

•  Although, Nioxin worked beautifully for all my blogger friends and I could myself see changes in their hair, I could see none in mine :(
• My hair becomes oily one day after shampooing just like it does with any other shampoo (I expected the effects to stay longer)
• Hair looks same and not "fuller", but yes I DO see some new hair growth along the hairline which can be due to the "healthy clean scalp" Nioxin is giving. But I cannot be fully sure that only Nioxin is causing this because I experience such growth every 3-4 months.
• Any other clear gel shampoo (esp. herbal ones) gave me same squeaky clean scalp like Nioxin gives.
• For this high price, I really would need some "noticeable" changes to convince anyone to use Nioxin, which in my case didn't happen :(

Recommendation: Nioxin would work beautifully for nourishing naturally frizzy or chemically damaged hair. It would also serve as a deep-cleansing routine for scalp to get rid of any build-ups. However, if you have fine and naturally soft hair like mine, do not expect wonders. If it had been priced at around Rs.1000-1200, I would have repurchased it since it really cleanses well. But for Rs.3000, I would skip!
