Review of MAC Russian Red Lipglass
Hey everyone! Today’s review will be on a much raved
about product in the beauty blogosphere. But there will be a little twist to this review on the product
which is claimed as a “must-have”. I know I will be breaking all norms and
might be put on fashion “guillotine” after this ;) You shall know why!

Packaging: It comes in a black cardboard box common
to all MAC products (Not in pic!) The tube is transparent with black top which
has a doe-foot applicator inside.

My take: As all MAC products, the pigmentation is
super good and MAC Russian Red Lipglass is a TRUE red gloss. Although it is claimed as a cool-toned red in
the beauty blogosphere, on me it comes out as a warm tomato red.

It can be as well
called a liquid lipstick, because honestly, I have not come across lip glosses
THIS pigmented! Texture-wise, it carries the tradition of being gooey and
sticky which all MAC lipglasses are infamous for. But I guess, that is the
reason behind the long staying power. Yes, although transferable, it does stay a very very
long time. And with the typical MAC vanilla fragrance, this can be a
boon ;) It is moisturizing too and I do not feel the need to applying extra
hydrating lip balms under this. Russian Red lipglass would suit all complexions
and act as a face-brightener.

Now with all these “niceties”, it can be rightly
called a “must-have”. But sadly, my opinion differs. And here are the reasons
why:
1. Glossy bright red lips, although looks
oh-so-stunning in magazine covers and Facebook pictures, can actually look
disastrous in real life. As much as a matte red lip, or even a subtle creamy
red lip can spell sophistication, GLOSSY red pout can spell…erm…. !!!
2. Even if someone does decide to add some gloss to
their matte red lipstick to make their lips look fuller, just a dot of a
transparent/ clear gloss over ANY matte red lipstick would give similar effect.
Better actually!
3. Lakme 9 to 5 range’s lip liner Red Alert (review to be up
soon!) which costs below Rs.400 topped with any clear gloss would give the SAME
effect without the stickiness! So now you decide, which would your
pocket prefer?
Whenever I decide to use it in future, a super combination would be MAC Ruby with a touch of Russian Red gloss at the center of the lips. That's it!
These are my views. You may differ from this. Peace!
;) ;)
Finally, here is the lip swatch. I was planning for
a full face picture, but I looked SO terrible with glossy red lips that I ended
up cropping the entire pic ;)

Friends, the purpose of this brick-bat review was to
make you understand that sometimes we need to come out of our notions like “MAC
is MAC”, because there might be same or better stuff available in your own
country which can ACTUALLY give you better results without burning your pockets
J No intention to
hurt anyone’s sentiments. To each, his own!
