70 days left for the Big-Day (OH-EM-GEE)
Bridal Banter: Bengali Bridal Journey |
Hey beauties, by now all of you that I am tying the knot this
year. That was was sole-purpose of starting “Bridal Banter” on Elegant Eves. So
while I jibber-jabbered away about styling and makeup tips for the Bengali bride,
yours truly c-o-m-p-l-e-t-e-l-y forgot about the most important thing about
D-Day- The proposal, of course!
Ahem... so ours is a perfect love story without much filmy
twists and turns (Am so glad! Whew) After all, we are much receptive to
bullsh*t during our teenage; in our mid-twenties we tend to look forward to
less complicated stuff ;) At least I did.

So it was year after a bad breakup which had exhausted me
mentally. After 12 months of that nightmare, I could finally see where things
went wrong and where I underestimated myself and my self-respect (Yes, it happens with all of us). That following
year was an eye-opening year for me and I learnt to love myself again! But yes,
I was not ready at all for any romantic alliance yet again. Final year into
post-graduation, studies and collecting memories with my friends before I leave
university and hostel was my ONLY priority.
But then as they say, destiny
winks ;) And one fine evening, I had commented on a Facebook status of a
friend. A while later, I saw someone else post a very witty comment on the same
thread. I counter-commented and the status finally became an essay by midnight
:D Next day, I received a friend request from “that person” and I promptly
accepted it because I had thoroughly enjoyed his wit last evening (Which, I
must mention, is very unlike me! I rarely accept requests of unknown guys)
And THAT is how it started.. August 2nd, 2013. Mr. Subhadeep
made his entry quietly and life has never been the same again :D

Much to both of our’s amazement, there were around 85 common friends among us
(family friends even!) and he had spent his childhood in my hometown. Yet we
never knew about each other’s existence till that status comment.
Chats became phone calls and friendship deepened: Everything
was super-fast. I had never felt so comfortable with anyone before. It was as if
we had known each other for ages ;) Yeah
yeah, cliche one, I know! But that’s how it was...
In a month’s time, I realized he felt something more than
just friendship with me and oh boy!!! I SO loved his hesitation, nervousness, clumsiness
during those days ;) Numerous hints from his side and I pretended not to
understand ANYTHING. Poor thing :D He finally could muster up courage and tell
me the three
words on September 3rd (Exactly a month after we started talking)
Yes, it sounds crazy, but not crazier than the fact that I said a YES!

He had actually come up with a SERIES of riddles,
the answers of which came to a single word, Mirror. “Ayna” is my pet-name and it
means Mirror in English. So this was how he “revealed” that the lady on his
mind was yours truly :P

After this, things took on a
flight! He met my parents (read IMPRESSED my parents) in following October
itself and both set of parents met each other in January
(2014). All these while I was struggling through my
Post graduation final semester in West Bengal.
December last year (2014),
it was my turn to meet his parents. By then I was back home doing some
freelance translation job. Super scared but super happy too, I dressed up in a
simple crimson cotton saree and a handloom print contrast blouse (Come one, I
am a beauty blogger, I HAVE to mention dress and makeup!) Makeup was even more
simple- Just kohl smudged across the upper eyelid and lower lashline and a pink
gloss and of course a teep (bindi)

They were in our town for two
days and it was total enjoyment! :D Both families loved the company of each
other and we couldn’t be more relieved.
Both of us
could go on a long drive early next day because his maa wanted us to spend time
together, much to the horror of my otherwise bindass maa who thought she should
be the typical “ladki ki maa” at least once in her lifetime :P (She wanted us
to be with the families). But we could sneak out and this is the happy us! :D

The wedding date was
finalized on that day itself and we were told that we are going to be “tied up
together” on November 27th, 2015 ;)
And that is how, even without
the more common “proposing with a ring”, our love story took the most important turn with the “seal of
parents” J
And again that is how, a VERY rare wedding
of a makeup addict and an engineer who would just LOVE to be a veterinary doc
if given the chance, is going to take place this November 27th
